From start to finish we had endless problems with this Gogga Connect.

When we applied as a reseller, we had no response for weeks, despite repeated call, faxes, emails, and messages left for their staff.

As a reseller we were supposed to receive sign-up commissions for customers. We are still waiting for those.

They supplied modems without software - several times.

Email accounts weren't setup – several times.

Email got “lost” across certain networks and was never resolved.

They rolled-over already paid for data, from one month to the next, and then charge additional penalty charges on this already paid for data. This had never been resolved.

They used my courier account to send their products, and never refunded us.

Despite being own 26% by Vodacom, we were unable to obtain meaningful assistance from Vodacom on any of these matters.

We received hundreds of complaints from their clients who approached us thinking we could somehow resolve their problems with Gogga Connect.

Our own surveys of both their clients, and resellers of Gogga Connect indicated a high degree of dis-satisfaction with the company.

I signed up with Telkom DSL (TEL: 10215).

Overall it was generally a very good experience. (8 out of 10)

When I placed the order I was told 4 - 6 weeks, and subject to infrastructure availability.

I faxed my application on 21 April, and on 28th April they phone to say all was OK and I could collect my router (modem).
With all the public holidays, that was 4 working days.

The main problem I encountered was that they said I could collect a router (modem), from any Telkom shop.

I went to Kenilworth centre, but it transpired that only the Cape Town branch had stocks.

I sent a fax to Cape Town confirming stocks and courier collection thereof, and got excellent assistance from the staff.

Overall phones were answered very promptly, with only short waits on hold music, and the staff were generally friendly, polite and helpful.

I was also phoned by both a marketing survey company for an evaluation, and
a Telkom official also phoned me a few days later to check that everything had been done to my complete satisfaction, and that everything was properly explained.

Telkom VS Cybersmart

I did look at Cybersmart, who have very good prices, but for my purposes I wanted the wireless modem, and it is included free with Telkom on a 2-year contract.

Apart from the Wireless modem, you could do the DSL activation directly with Telkom (Gives you control of the line if you want to move elsewhere later), and then sign up with the internet data bundle from Cybersmart as an option.
